This
traveling exhibit was created to share, honor, and celebrate the
art and writing of children from around the world.
Many of the students whose pieces are included in this exhibit are
visual or kinesthetic learners. As such, their learning strengths
do not lie in the straight verbal arena in which most classrooms
operate. Yet when given concrete visual tools, they are able to
excel as writers.
Many
children participating in this exhibit are also second language
learners whose literacy learning is further complicated by dual
language issues.
Whether second language learners or children with diverse learning
styles, these students have all produced exceptional pieces of writing
by creating concrete images first from which they access rich language.
Pictures, after all, provide a universal language, one that transcends
the conventions of the written word.
